Barcito

Barcito
Downtown Los Angeles, California

“Restaurant openings are usually a nightmare – fraught with unexpected delays at every turn. Working with Bisciotti Design + Build was not only a seamless experience, but easily the sole reason we were able to open on time, under budget – with a space we love!”
– Andrea Borgen –
Owner, Barcito

Downtown LA has experienced a renaissance and has become a center for work and play, and culture and entertainment. The client for this project was a young up and coming restaurateur and entrepreneur, Andrea Borgen. The restaurant is located just a few blocks from the Staples Center in the South Park area of Downtown.

The concept for the restaurant was to emulate the look and feel of a classic corner bar in Buenos Aires with a menu of small plates based on Argentine recipes and serving the residents and office workers in that neighborhood. The design imbues a sense of warmth, of community, and of belonging. Scaled down to a modest budget, the design is simple and inviting. It brings the architecture, culture and energy of the people of Argentina into the restaurant through the use of large ceiling height duotone murals. The bar area consists of a long bar top made of stained wood, paneling and boiserie. The back bar is comprised of a large and impressive ceiling-height mirror that is tilted down so as to enclose the view of the people dining and drinking and which creates a more connected space. The thonet chairs are typical chairs you would find in a café. The flooring, a black-and-white-checkered design, are also typical in bars in Buenos Aires.
